FAQ
Are all Cowhides the same quality?
No, Cowhides come from different sources and have different thickness and tanning characteristic. We offer top quality Brazilian Cowhides that are recognised as some of the best in the world as they come from large tanneries that have years of experience in the tanning process. They come without any holes and rub marks that are found in our Craft Cowhide range. These hides are generally thinner and come with marks and holes but are great for craft projects. They are also less expensive to purchase, we indicate clearly on the website the differences. This covers natural hides, Faux Hides are 100% sythetic and machine made.
Are Cowhides Ethical?
Frequently asked and the answer is, Yes. They are a byproduct of the cattle industry and no part of the animal is wasted. No animals are specifically grown for their hides alone. We appreciate some people are against cowhides and meat products and this is a personal stance and we respect it too.
Are Cowhiderugs Durable?
The real leather of cowhide rugs can last in excess of ten years and longer. They are extremely hard wearing and even the white fur does not mark easily. Simply maintain with an occasional brushing.
Are Cowhides easy to clean?
Obsolutely. A simple soft brush off occasionally ensure all grit is removed and if anything spills on your rugs, get to the stain straight away and it should come out easily. We have a seperate section about Cowhide cleaning that is very helpful.
Are Cowhides Soft?
Underfoot the fur of the cowhide is almost silky in texture on the qualities we sell. This is due to the tanning process. Soft but extremely durable.
Are Cowhides Still in Style?
Cowhides have never gone out of style in the last fifty years and are a style statement in any home whichever room you place them in.
How are Cowhides Measured?
As a piece of furniture you need to know the length and the width so your cowhide fits into the area you have in mind to use it in. Our measurements are from the tip of the hide to the base for the length and across the widest part of the base for the width.
Each hide is unique so sizes are indicative only and there are variances in each hide.
